up CLOSE

Standing proud and confident, with many strands of beaded jewelry around her neck, this Maasai bride boasts vibrant red colors. The fifth in a series of African Portraits, this painting is a commission keeping closer to the original photograph where the bride is covered in mud mixed with goat’s blood, a symbol signifying union: union of husband and wife, family, and community.

This portrait is heading to South Africa -
