Locomotive 1702 is home to Bryson City, a little, tucked away railway town in the Great Smoky Mountains where steam engines continue to run. The Great Smoky Mountain Railway Steam Locomotive Engine 1702 was build in 1942 by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for training purposes. Today it delights thousands of families and tourists on round trip excursions into river gorges, across valleys and through tunnels carved out of majestic mountains.
